"Sometimes You're the Hammer; Sometimes You're the Nail"
"Sometimes you're the hammer; sometimes you're the nail."
My husband says this from time to time after he competes in a jiujitsu competition and we laugh.
But it resonates with me.
One week, I was running around with friends, trying on wedding dresses for fun, & sipping champagne. Within 10 days, I ended up septic in the hospital for an entire week due to a kidney infection. For awareness, I’m immunocompromised and on immunosuppressive medications. Infections/viruses are very difficult for my body to fight off.
(I'm home now and all is well!)
"You're always doing fun things, Liz! I want your life."
I hear this more than a few times a month. I know I make it evident that I enjoy life, but I want everyone to understand that I CHASE my joy because I know bad health days come up for me often.
Somewhere inside of me, I feel that posting this blog shows others that this is what it means to be strong AND immunosuppressed. Having fun AND having to struggle. Laughing/enjoying AND crying because I'm exhausted.
But bad times don't stay bad...
"And life has a funny way of helping you out when you think everything's gone wrong and everything blows up in your face".
Keep doing the things that bring you joy.
Truly, they're important and not just an indulgence.
With so much love to you! xx
