2020 Beauty Trends That Make Sense

There are so many new beauty products that I’d love to try—- clean skincare, makeup palettes, hair tools, hair products, beauty procedures, and more. When I felt a bit overwhelmed by all of the information and ads out there, I decided to do my own research and summarize the 2020 trends that seem to be agreed upon by multiple sources.

Suprisingly, I’d try all of these, except…
Have you heard of the new freckle-making beauty procedure? It’s exactly as it sounds: “Freckle Tattoos”- a micro-blading procedure that actually puts freckle tattoos onto your face (or wherever you’d like them to go). Not for me, but is it for you? It didn’t make the list, but I thought I’d throw it out there. You can read/watch more on it HERE. It became known in 2017 and I’m just bringing it up now because it’s really trending in 2020.

If I could do what Alicia Keys did and go au naturel (a true “skinimalist”) I would… but I’m not that confident. I’ve got light scarring on my face that I need to work harder on and eyes that need POP. They look closed otherwise. But I digress…

Without further adieu, here are the top predicted trends of 2020!

1) Ageless/Timeless Beauty
Owning our beauty at every age is GOALS. I understand the desire to get fillers and color our hair when we see it go gray, but in the realm of ageless/timeless beauty, we can rock our salt+pepper hair (white, completely gray, mixed) unapologetically. Keep hydrating and using SPF, everyone! Protecting our skin from the harmful rays of the sun and drinking lots of water will help in the long run. Yes, this is a trend now as this hasn’t been something we’ve accepted in the past.

2) Eco-Friendly Products
My hope is that more and more companies will become eco-responsible. Using fewer resources to manufacture products, creating packaging that is earth-friendly, and anti-pollution product creation/usage are particularly important to me. It’s important to watch out for the earth as we create things. If it’s going to be purchased and used anyway, might as well do it in a way that respects the environment we live in— right? Yes! Again, this is a 2020 trend as we’ve not steadily done what we need to do for our environment. Larger companies are starting to take responsibility, so we’re really doing it now!

3) Clean Beauty
I’m all about clean-beauty life. All my products are handmade by local fempreneurs who produce their own lines of natural skincare: Sans Skincare, Pure Krush Organics, and Pure Zen. We can’t escape all the toxins in our lives, but we can reduce the amount we absorb by watching what we eat and what we put on our skin. The issue? Most companies aren’t transparent with what their “natural” or “clean beauty” products really contain. For example, most products list “water/agua/aqua” as their first ingredient. This also means that there is a preservative somewhere in that product, too. Read the labels on your products thoroughly and choose what’s right for you. It’s time for complete transparency, skincare companies!

4) “Prejuvination”
Yes, this is a thing! It’s time we start taking care of our skin at a younger age so we don’t have problems later. Protecting our skin from the sun, taking our vitamins, eating a more nutrient-dense diet, consuming lots of water, staying active, et al… these are all things we know we should do, but younger generations (women, men, et al) are really doing what they’re supposed to. Cleanse, moisturize, protect…

5) Gemstones, Glitter, Neon, Sparkles… Oh My!
Yes, we’re talking big moods here! Adding gemstones, glitter, sparkles, face-stamps, and more will be many’s go-to when it comes to shining/glowing. Neon makeup palettes made their way back into our lives in 2019 but are being used out-loud in 2020! Ready to face-glue those glittery gemstones on? Line your eyes with eye-safe sparkles? How about neon pink as your cut-crease go-to? This is one I’m going to try out. I mean, why not? Pearls, sequins, and crystals are being added to hair, nails, to the body, and to the face now! Go glitter or go home! :)

6) Twilighting
You’ve heard of highlighting and lowlighting, but now “twilighting” is all the rage. It’s adding a golden tone to your highlights/lowlights via balyage. Ask your stylist if this is the look for you. It’s a warmer tone, so if cool-tones are what look best on you, consult your colorist first before demanding this trend! It works for me, but cool tones tend to bright me up. Is twilighting for you?

7) Pink is the New Nude
Pink was the new nude in 2019, but apparently is being more widely embraced in 2020! Huda has a palette that I received from my BFF (Amber) and I love using the tones to both brighten and add warmth to my skin tone on my cheeks and eyes. I’ve been noticing runway models adding light pink tones to their shadows, pastel-neon tones to their cheeks, and bright pops of pink to their lips. New trend? Not really (most trends revolve anyway), but 2020 is embracing it even more than 2019 did!

8) Hair Trends
I had to add this as its own line item because there are so many trends besides “twilighting” to talk about. Let’s talk hairstyles and accessories here. In 2020, we’re adding pearl embellishments to braids, wearing padded headbands and twisted headbands even more than we did in 1980 and 2019, embracing the full-head-of-gray look, and taking it back to the flip-side! You ready?

Do any of the above 2020 trends work for you? COMMENT BELOW!

Personally, I love all the eco-goodness pouring out into the beauty industry. When we speak up and act on what we know is important, we really do make our voices heard and change is made. Let’s keep heading in this direction… clean, clean, clean!
