Being healthy involves taking care of more than just your physical needs. When you’re thinking about overall wellness, it’s important to see the full picture. That means paying attention to your emotional, mental and physical wellness. You don’t have to do a complete overhaul of your life all at once; instead, it’s best if you find ways to incorporate small changes into your everyday life.

Declutter for Your Mental Health
Clutter can collect dust and become hazardous to navigate, but apart from the physical effects that you encounter when living in a cluttered home, Psychology Today suggests there are mental health effects too. You can feel less focused, more stressed, and even have trouble connecting with the other people in your environment.

When you’re tackling your home declutter project, make a plan and stick to it. Make sure you’re decisive about what you want to keep and what needs to go. Once you’re done clearing out your rooms, you should keep things minimal moving forward.

If it’s too much to take on by yourself, look into a cleaning or maid service that can do a deep clean of your home. Bear in mind that homeowners in Washington, DC have paid between $123 and $239 for maid services, so budget accordingly.

Connect With Your Friends
There’s a lot to be said for staying in touch with your friends and according to Live Science, maintaining your social connections can vastly improve your overall health.

When it comes to your physical health, staying social can reduce blood pressure and inflammation in your body. At the same time, your emotional and mental health gets a boost. Stressors become more bearable and depression is less apt to take hold. A good circle of friends can be important in helping you work through personal challenges as well.

Your friend dates don’t need to be extravagant events. In fact, the simpler they are the more likely you are to stay in touch. Some of the activities you can enjoy with friends are trying out a new restaurant, making dinner together at home or even taking care of a few common errands together.

Develop a Sleep and Exercise Cycle
It may not seem like it on the surface, but sleep and exercise work together to keep you healthy. With a good night’s sleep, you’ll have the energy you need to work out and with the right exercise routine, you’ll sleep better.

According to Healthline, sleeping well starts with getting enough light exposure during the day. When it’s bedtime, you need to relax and make sure your bedroom is sleep-friendly. This can be as simple as keeping the temperature cool and the room dark.

If you’re wondering how to incorporate exercise into your daily routine, try starting your day with it. Eke out the time you need by setting out your exercise clothes from the night before and prepping breakfast ahead of time. You don’t even have to stretch your budget, as there are gyms in the area you can join for as little as $10 per month.

Eat Well-Balanced Meals
When it comes to diet and overall health, it’s a classic case of getting out what you put in. Controlling how much you eat and what you eat will help you to maintain a healthy weight as well as keep chronic illnesses at bay. With the right nutrition, you’ll sleep better and have more energy to go about your days.

Some specific foods have even been found to work wonders for your mental health; like, protein can help keep your mind sharp, and limited caffeine can give you a boost. Your diet is definitely not one of the areas where you want to make changes too quickly as the aim is to stay on track.

To keep things manageable, start by replacing a few sugary drinks with water and finding healthy foods that you actually like. Over time, you should reduce processed foods with more whole options.

While it’s essential to take care of your overall health, it’s possible to feel that integrating it into your everyday life is too much to ask. The sooner you start to inject small changes into your routine, the sooner you’ll see the positive shifts in your wellness.
