First, shop handmade goods on King Ave (steps away from the Yankee Pier, where the Brooklyn ferry docks) from over 30 local artists, designers, and creative small businesses from NYC and beyond with FAD Market on September 17+18 from 11am-5pm. Highlights this weekend include:

  • Colorful paintings from Diana Teeter Art will be available for purchase and are sure to bring some personality to your living space.

  • From her In Fun Handmade online store to in front of your eyes, illustrator Yinfan Huang’s assortment of trinkets, prints, and books make for great gifts for all ages.

  • Elevate your self-care rituals with loveisessentials’ products that aim to connect you to nature and back to yourself.

  • Stay warm this fall with LunacyKnits, hand knitted pieces made with love in the Bronx.

  • Get your nightcap and satisfy your sweet tooth in one fell swoop with Patsy’s Rum Cake, homemade desserts in Caribbean-inspired flavors.

  • Add a little bit of sparkle with a little help from Renée Frances Jewelry.

Next, make sure you don’t make the journey back to the city hungry with Governors Island’s drool-worthy food vendors. Unsure where to start? We’ve got options!

  • Sip a cocktail and grab a Court Street Grocer’s sandwich at the nearby Carreau Club while fighting that competitive urge with a lawn game. Click here to brush up on the Pétanque rules before your visit.

  • Stay cool with handmade natural Mexican ice cream and sweets from La Newyorkina from 12-5pm all weekend.

  • Grab some wood-fired pizza from Pizza Yard on Colonels Row, open from 12-5pm both Saturday and Sunday.

  • If you’re in the mood for an aphrodisiac or seafood is your jam, THEREALMOTHERSHUCKERS honors the rich legacy of Black oystermen in NYC with their menu of oysters with an assortment of traditional and innovative toppings.

If none of the above makes your stomach rumble, there are some other options. Here’s the scoop:

  • With a lot of shaded green spaces, feel free to bring your own picnic.

  • Don’t forget to bring a blanket or a lawn chair for supreme comfort.

  • While Governors Island is not BYOB, you can purchase alcoholic beverages and sip them in specific areas.

  • If you’re ready to BBQ, grill reservations are open through November and include a charcoal grill and up to two picnic tables to use for the entire day.
